The Way Things Are

from Title Goes Here by Skeleton Keys

/

about

This is AKA "The Really Obnoxiously Loud Song". Tommy's vocals in this hit an all-time high, and he's afraid to sing it live lest small children explode. This is an apology song, and a nice note (pun intended) on which to close our debut release.

lyrics

I sleep with a knife under my pillow and a gun under my bed
Trust is a long gone thing to me and all of innocence is dead
I couldn't just let you walk into my life like that
And now that you're gone I really know just what I had

I'm sorry for all the time you wasted wasting all your time on me
I'm sorry for every word you said that I just didn't want to hear
I'm sorry for all the things I did that all went wrong and wrong again
I'm sorry for all of this, but it's never gonna change the way things are

I can't explain why I just shut you out and never let you speak
This world has left me jaded and thinking that there's no point in belief
Why should I break down my walls if they'll only sit there in the dust?
I couldn't let myself give into all the trust

I'm sorry for all the time you wasted wasting all your time on me
I'm sorry for every word you said that I just didn't want to hear
I'm sorry for all the things I did that all went wrong and wrong again
I'm sorry for all of this, but it's never gonna change the way things are
